Marriage Certificates
A certified marriage certificate is the official government record that your marriage has been legally registered. Whether you just got married and need copies for a name change, or you need a replacement copy years later for legal purposes, GoCertificates can help you order certified copies quickly and securely.
When Do You Need a Marriage Certificate?
A certified marriage certificate is required more often than most people expect. Here are the most common reasons people order one:
Legal Name Changes
Joint Bank Accounts & Mortgages
Insurance Updates
Tax Filing (Joint Returns)
Immigration & Visa Applications
Employer Benefits Enrollment
Property & Title Changes
Divorce Proceedings
Each institution you contact may require its own certified copy. Consider ordering multiple copies to save time.

1
Select the State Where the Marriage Occurred

Our guided form walks you through the required information. Most applications take less than 10 minutes to complete.
3
Verify Your Identity
You'll upload a government-issued photo ID. Some states may require additional proof that you're authorized to receive the document.
4
We Review & Submit
Our team reviews your application for accuracy before submitting it to the appropriate state or county office.
5
Certificate Delivered
Your certified marriage certificate is processed and shipped directly to you by the issuing agency.
What You'll Need
Marriage Details
- Full legal names of both spouses
- Date of marriage
- Place of marriage (city/county and state)
- Your relationship to the people on the certificate
Your Identification
- Government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, etc.)
- Additional documentation may be required depending on your state
Some states require notarization for marriage certificate orders. If this applies to your state, you'll be notified during the order process.
Processing Times & Fees
Processing times and fees vary by state and county. Here's what to know:
- Processing time depends on the issuing office. After we submit your application, the state or county handles it on their timeline.
- Recently married? If your marriage just took place, the certificate may not be registered yet. Most states need at least 10 days to process a new marriage record.
- Shipping time is separate from processing time.
- Some states process at the county level, not the state level. During checkout, you'll be directed to the appropriate office based on where the marriage occurred.
- Our service fee covers the secure platform, application review, and customer support. State or county fees are charged separately.
